Confindustria Ceramica, Italian tile manufacturers, selects GaBi from thinkstep for sector-wide Environmental Product Declarations creation

Ravenna, Sassuolo, Leinfelden-Echterdingen, 21.10.2015 - thinkstep, the global leader in sustainability performance management software, data and services, today announced that Confindustria Ceramica, the Italian association of ceramic tile manufacturers, and thinkstep S.r.l, have signed an agreement for the development of a software tool to provide certified sector EPDs.

When complete, any member of the association can use the tool to create certified EPDs instantly and assess product development practices for significant improvement in sustainability. The automated EPD creator tool will be built using thinkstep’s GaBi Envision Software.

GaBi Envision is the leading global solution to communicate and use LCA results for non-LCA practitioners. The LCA model will help the Italian ceramic tile manufacturers realize greater efficiency in production and significant cost savings.

“The sector EPD initiative aims to offer our companies a practical tool for tackling future market developments while meeting the requirements of the main environmental certifications,” said Armando Cafiero, managing director of Confindustria Ceramica. “At the same time it optimises the investments made by individual companies and the best practices widely adopted throughout the Italian ceramic industry.”

Confindustria Ceramica organized its search for a sustainable development partner and solution by setting up a technical committee that evaluated multiple companies and solutions in the market. After a thorough process, they selected thinkstep for their expertise, understanding of the building and construction industry and ceramic tile sector in particular.
